Studying about parathyroid hormone. So now im gonna 'bla~' whatever thing i have learn at mua blog. Revision time mah....
So what is parathyroid hormone? It is hormone released by Parathyroid gland that located at the back (posterior) to you thyroid gland. We named parathyroid hormone as parathormone too =p.
So where it affect? Your kidney la, GIT (stand for gastrointestinal tract) and bone lorrr...
Then macam mana it affect leh? ok bare in mind that, this hormone has the main effect on calcium regulation. So in simple, it will increase your serum calcium. Then what to do with your kidney? Your kidney will be stimulated by this hormone and start to increase the renal reabsorption of calcium and decrease the REabsorption of phosphorus. Satu lagi, it will increase the conversion of Vitamin D to ACTIVE Vitamin D(okla, ginna me dun knw how to spell the scientific name of active vitamin me, forgive me Prof Zalina). Note that Vitamin D has the function of increase bone resorption, increase phosphorus n calcium absorption and increase of calcium renal resorption.
So lagi about the GIT, it is very lauya la, so only can increase the absorption of calcium INDIRECTLY! Kenapa? Cz it can works only convert the vitamin D to active Vitamin D which the story goes on with the crap-talking i've written abv.
Then bone leh? Oh, ini pandai lo, it can increase the serum calcium in ur blood by increase the bone RESORPTION!!! bukan reabsorption tapi, resorption, means, the bone will release calcium into ur blood, so ur serum calcium mah increase lor..
So now, it gt a pembangkang, we call in calcitonin, which cm frm parafollicular cell or C cell at ur Thyroid hormone. So parathyroid hormone work antagonistically with calcitonin. This pembangkang hor, will decrease bone resorption, inhibit Vitamin D conversion to the active one, and lagi teruk, increase ur excretion of calcium to the urine!
But then pembangkang also gt it own job need to do geh. It will be increased when there is increase in serum calcium, so that you wont get hypercalciuria which might lead to formation of kidney stone, or demineralisation that cause fractures or constipation like me due to your instetinal muscle movement is weaken (it has something to do with ur neuromuscular activity that hv been decrease, then all the muscle will be weaken). All these are the effect of hyperparathyroidism. For the hypoparathyroidism it works different way. Your soft tissue will be calcified and your muscle spasm, and you will feel anxiety and irritability ( I think this might cause some abnormal psycho problem? bt it isnt mentioned in the book la.)
So yeah, stop here. Cz lazy to type more...wait i finish my revision then i will come back with more BORING post! haha, DONT LIKE IT? Just click the 'x' button.
p/s: the pictures has nothing to do with parathyroid hormone, just a random pictures. Haha.
